About Katie
I am a political science and history double-major at College of the Holy Cross. Although I am young, I have already had significant experience with tutoring. In high school I was a tutor for the National Honor Society and my senior year, named President of the National Honor Society for my chapter. In middle school, I was tutored, so I got firsthand experience of what did and did not work. I want to make learning as fun and relatable as possible for both of us!

I spend the first session getting to know the student to figure out their level, what they do and do not know, their style of learning, and what style of teaching is going to help suit them best.
I spend the first 5-10 minutes of the lesson by activating prior knowledge to get the student engaged.
I spend the next 10-15 minutes using direct instruction where I give explanation, use visuals, and define key terms.
I spend the following 15 minutes doing guided practice. This includes analysis, discussion-based learning, etc.
I use the next 5-10 minutes to give the student independent work, usually a mini-quiz.
I use the next 5-10 minutes for open discussion, where I ask open-ended questions, and discussion-based thinking.
I spend the last couple of minutes providing an exit ticket.
What sets me apart is I am a college student. I am relatable to students, since I am on the younger side. Teaching also provides me with more learning opportunities!
I am looking to teach mostly middle school students, but am also open to working with high school and elementary school students!
