About Toni

I have worked in different capacities in education since 2010, including as a college professor, a tutoring lab manager, and a tutor. I graduated with honors from the University of Dallas with a bachelor's degree in English and a concentration in Latin, and went on to complete a master's in English at the same institution. I then attended Southern Methodist University to complete a second master's degree in English.

My work at UD focused heavily on Latin and the history and culture of the Romans. I even had the chance to study in Rome twice, giving me a deep connection to the events that played out there almost 2000 years ago. From reading Virgil's Aeneid to studying the rise and fall of the Roman Empire, you can trust I have some knowledge to help you expand your understanding.

Since leaving college, I have taught at two different community college districts, with courses including composition, literature, developmental writing, and research. In my first position, I spent time as a tutor with the college's faculty-run writing lab and was later promoted to the tutoring lab manager, where I trained fellow faculty in tutoring best practices. In my current position, I hold the rank of assistant professor of English, and I also serve as the lead facilitator for a professional development program focused on active learning.

I began tutoring while working on my graduate degrees, and I have worked with established companies such as Kumon and Victory Prep, as well as tutoring privately. My role as a tutoring lab manager helped me to deepen my understanding of tutoring as a profession.

No matter the age of the student or the subject at hand, you can trust that I have the skills to guide you to success.

Ready to guide your own learning experience as you explore Latin and the history and culture of the Romans? Come join me to explore the wonders of language and delve into the role Latin has played in the world around us.

Whether teaching or tutoring, I use active learning techniques to help you take charge of and guide your learning experience. Typically my sessions begin with reviewing questions and content to identify where we want to take the session. We'll work on clarifying any confusion and then move into the next step in the process. Throughout, I will help you conceptualize the ideas you are uncovering, linking them to prior learning and helping you construct your own knowledge. As we continue on, I might include some tidbits of trivia on the Romans to help you stay engaged with the culture that birthed the language. Finally, at the end of the session, we'll take a few moment to process what you have learned and then look ahead to the next lesson.

Whether you're taking your first steps with the first declension, or you're working on translating some Cicero, I can help guide you through your understanding of Latin!
