About Sydney
Hello!
My name is Sydney!
I am the High School Valedictorian of the Class of 2025, graduating with a 4.0 GPA and a 1530 SAT score. While in high school, I also completed 38 credits at a local community college (with another 4.0 GPA) and am on the President's List. As of this spring, I have completed Science and Engineering Physics 2 and Multivariate Calculus. Currently, I am taking Ordinary Differential Equations and Science and Engineering Physics 3.
In my freshman year of high school, I earned a certification in Front End Web Development through Udacity, and in my junior year, I was certified in iOS Development. Currently, I am writing my own physics-based mobile video game for iOS.
Outside of STEM, I also love music. I have played violin for 9 years, and was invited to be the Concertmaster of NYSSMA Zone 5's Area-All-State String Orchestra, as well as a first Violinist in NYSSMA's Conference All-State Symphony Orchestra. In 2025, I was co-winner of the Jefferson-Lewis Bi-County Senior Soloist Competition. Currently, I play with a local fiddle ensemble, a community orchestra, and a university orchestra.
Additionally, I have 11 years of experience as a pianist, where I have performed NYSSMA Level 6 for 5 years. Recently, I have begun composing original music: several of my original pieces have been played publicly.
This year, I will be attending Jefferson Community College hoping to major in Physical Sciences and Mathematics (and hopefully beginning the Computer Science program as well!) I truly believe Math and Science have been two of the greatest gifts given to us, and I am so excited to share them with others through tutoring!

Whether it's helping a student write code or guiding a peer through calculus, the most important principle of tutoring is understanding individual student needs. How people learn and what they currently understand are oftentimes just as important as the material itself.
As a result, I like to start off with what the student does know (which is often a lot more than they think!) This helps build confidence and identifies knowledge gaps. I also like to ask how they've learned most effectively in the past and what their academic goals are, so sessions can be tailored to their individual context.
Moreover, I believe in the power of strategic repetition. This shouldn't be merely repeating the same kinds of problems over and over again; rather, it means looking at a variety of problems from different perspectives. This helps new ideas become part of a student's intuition rather than simply memorized in the short term.
I have always loved physics, and I’m excited to help high schoolers love it too. I hope to not only help students succeed in this valuable field, but to help them learn how to learn- and that can be used anywhere.
