I believe on in a one-on-one collaborative approach to learning regardless of class size. The first thing I do is help the student identify exactly what areas they're struggling in, and then find areas they understand better, and connect the two. Doing this helps them understand the area of deficiency as it relates to other things, and by making things relatable, we can build a framework that allows the student understand things from a big picture perspective.
I like to use real-world scenarios and case studies that give students a higher level of understanding.
By doing this, the student can directly apply the knowledge they have learned. It no longer becomes theoretical or simply out of a textbook, but is useful and meaningful knowledge that will help them succeed.
From 1998 through 2008 I taught music, private individual and group lessons in the field percussion, and then began a business career. I went into Business management and managed groups of 50 people - sometime more. I have led several successful teams and completed multiple projects, tasks and fulfilled hundreds (likely thousands) of orders.
The individuals I have mentored have going on to receive multiple promotions, gone on to receive advanced degrees and have even successfully started their own companies.
