I would say my teaching approach is more discussion and repetition based. More difficult concepts, such as the reasonings behind why things happened or the way religion affected the actions of our ancestors is something that I believe is best understood through casual conversation and simple research (simple research being google searches of verifiable sources and looking through library sources). Easier concepts such as specific dates, times, and events will be learned through some sort of repetition- flashcards, simple rhyme schemes, putting the ideas to popular tunes, or anything that the student knows helps them memorize. Some things simply have to be memorized, especially in history, so I think it's super important for students to figure out the quickest and easiest ways for them to learn information (for me, I learn through rhyme schemes and songs the easiest- I memorized the entire Greek alphabet and all the prepositions through songs, and of course everyone remembers the rhyme about how to remember Henry the Eighth's wives "Divorced, Beheaded, Died; Divorced, Beheaded, Survived."
I am a college student studying to be an Elementary School Teacher. I've always loved history, particularly the histories of ancient Greek, Roman, Egyptian, and East Asian (ex: Chinese, Japanese, Korean) cultures and mythologies, as well as World War 2 and the Holocaust. I thoroughly enjoy tackling the difficult questions that history can bring up and making flashcards is always fun too! The best way to learn history, in my opinion, is to take the situation and turn it into a sort of dialogue- almost like you're gossiping about historical figures like you might gossip about other students at school. I also enjoy trying to connect historical events to pop culture- comparing and contrasting characters and events in novels or movies to historical figures and their actions. If you're looking for someone to make learning history a little more fun and easy to understand, I'm your person!
