About Devin

My tutoring career began in the Summer of 2016. I got into contact with the Principal and the President of the high school in which I graduated in order to volunteer as a mathematics tutor for the mathematics courses offered during the Summer Session. After the ten week session, I realized that I had found my calling. Shortly after the start of the Fall Semester 2016 at Cal State LA, I applied for a tutoring position at the University Tutorial Center on campus. I received a phone call from the director of the tutoring center in order to schedule an interview, shortly after submitting my application. I completed the interview and about an hour later, I had received an email from the director, offering me a position as a tutor, saying he "could see my passion for education and teaching." I worked at the University Tutorial Center for roughly six months before deciding to apply for a position as an independent tutor. I was offered the position and accepted, ready to tutor students that are in need of help. I continued to work at the University Tutorial Center for another three months before deciding to resign in order to focus on tutoring independently. I currently tutor 10-12 students a week, ranging from 7th grade to college students, in fields of study including arithmetic, pre-algebra, algebra 1, algebra 2, geometry, trigonometry, calculus 1, and physics 1 (mechanics/kinematics).

I am a college student who is nearing the end of the race for my Bachelor's of Science in Mathematics and a minor in Physics. Upon completion, I plan on earning my Ph.D. in Physics from UC Berkeley, Stanford University, MIT, or CalTech. I have been tutoring both mathematics and physics for almost two years now and it is a rewarding experience that I crave day after day. It is my calling and my passion to teach and tutor both mathematics and physics, I don't work a day in my life if I am working as a tutor. The areas I tutor include (and are not limited to): arithmetic, pre-algebra, algebra 1, algebra 2, pre-calculus, trigonometry, geometry, calculus 1, 2, and 3, introductory physics, mechanics/kinematics, thermodynamics, electromagnetism, and astronomy. When first meeting a student, my goal for the first session is to understand and acknowledge exactly how much the student already knows, and after understanding the student's knowledge, I tailor my needs to best assist the student create a more structured foundation and understanding of the subject material. When working at Cal State LA in the University Tutorial Center, I underwent strict and thorough training on how to be an efficient tutor. After completing the training, I was certified by the College Reading and Learning Association as an international tutor, level 1. I am very passionate about teaching and tutoring and I can guarantee 100% satisfaction.
