About Lauren
I am currently in my third year of college, and I am working towards gaining multiple degrees in marine biology, chemistry, and Spanish. However, my favorite and best subject is English Language Arts. I have earned a perfect score on the English subsection of the American College Test (ACT) and an advanced score on the reading portion. I also received a perfect score on my high school English state test in reading, grammar, and writing.

Everyone learns differently, so to get a feel for how the student learns, what level he/she is at, and what the core issues are, he/she will start off with a basic placement test that tells me what the student is struggling with most and what his/her strengths are.
Unlike a teacher in a large classroom, I am able to adjust my teaching methods to accommodate each student. For example, if a student learns best through repetition, then we will focus on one topic or one group of topics repetitively until it becomes “muscle memory” in the brain. Or, for the student who understands new concepts by relating them to something already known, we will convert those new concepts to help create a more vivid memory to recall.
I tutor students in elementary, middle school, high school, and up to English Composition II in college.
My schedule is very flexible, so I am able to work around and accommodate sudden changes, cancellations, etc.
A typical tutoring session would start the same every time - if it is the first session with the student, I want to see what he/she is already capable of and what he/she needs to focus on. If it is the second or later session, I will likely have a light quiz on what we have previously covered to gauge what topics are sticking with the student and what we need to go over more in depth.
After that, we will complete several exercises regarding the topics at hand. Some may be pencil/paper based while others are more interactive. The goal, at the end of each session, is for the student be confident in at least one of the areas he/she was struggling with at the beginning of that session.
