Methodology

I start my lessons focusing on what notes and work my students have gotten from school. Beginning with material they know very well, we keep moving forward until we hit the point where they have a gap in their understanding. From there, I try to reframe the concept(s) in a way that my student will understand and bring in outside explanations/resources so they have as many ways of thinking about it as possible.
Once I've made sure that my students understand the concept(s) they've been struggling with, I like to spend a lot of time on application of their skills on practice problems. This often takes the form of reworking old tests and quizzes, as well as doing problems from their textbook and outside resources I can find. I try not to assign students additional homework because they likely have lots of other commitments on their plates, but if a student is really struggling with a particular concept, I will ask them to complete a few practice problems for the next lesson.
