About León

So... About me. I'm a Colombian-Italian college student born in Bogotá, Colombia to Colombian and Italian parents. Because of this, I speak English, Spanish, and Italian (Spanish was my first!). When I was three, my family moved to California, and when I was nine, we moved to Manhattan, New York. Now, I attend Tulane University in New Orleans.

My hobbies include playing soccer, cooking, traveling, listening to music, and watching sports. Soccer and cooking are my two favorite things to do, and they have taught me several life lessons. I have taken away morals of camaraderie, precision, diligence, hard-work, and patience from those activities.

I don't want my unique background to leave you skeptical of my teaching ability. I am very excited to apply my skills and unique experiences to teaching Spanish, in addition to being a friend and someone to talk to.

About the lesson

Given my experience speaking Spanish my whole life, I understand why some teachers emphasize teaching purely building blocks. However, I feel that Spanish (as with most languages) requires understanding the spoken word just as much. My teaching style will make sure that my students master the building blocks, and throughout lessons they will learn how to speak more fluently like a native. My tutoring sessions are unique in that I have spoken this language my whole life, which sets me apart from other tutors (who I am sure are also great) who just recently mastered the language.

My target levels of understanding are anyone up until the late High School / Very beginner college Spanish. I specialize in IB Spanish as I performed very well on the exam and know what it's like to be in a two-year Spanish course.

Overall, I will begin with one or more (however many needed) sessions to evaluate the proficiency and understanding of my student, then I will build more in-depth lesson plans. My lesson plans will include software which I can access through personal connections but is not yet easily accessible to the general public.

I will be using resources such as Radio Ambulante Studios, a leader in Spanish-Language journalism. RA has also created a partner Spanish-learning app LUPA, which integrates their stories in both Spanish and English. I am able to access their services.

I also have loads of resources from middle, high school, and college Spanish classes, which I can incorporate. Additionally, I have external resources such as news articles, other websites, and personal knowledge which I can bring to the table.

For this, the price may seem inflated but in the end it is better than paying hundreds of dollars on supplemental material.
