About Sharon Oluchi
I am a Columbia University graduate, University of Exeter alumna, and ICAEW Chartered Accountant with a passion for helping students unlock their potential. My own academic journey across the UK and US has shown me that success comes not only from ability, but from confidence, curiosity, and having the right guidance.
I first began tutoring mathematics because I enjoyed helping students move from feeling uncertain about a topic to feeling capable and confident. Over four years as a mathematics tutor on MyTutor, and through my experience as a Teaching Assistant at Columbia University, I have seen how the right encouragement and teaching approach can completely change a student's relationship with learning.
I teach because I believe every student can improve when they are given the tools, support, and confidence to succeed. My goal is not simply to help students achieve better grades, but to help them develop problem-solving skills, resilience, and the belief that they are capable of tackling challenging problems.
I bring a structured, professional approach to every lesson while ensuring sessions remain engaging, supportive, and tailored to each student's individual goals.

My approach to tutoring is centred on helping students truly understand mathematics rather than memorise procedures. Every lesson is highly interactive, with students solving problems throughout the session while I guide their thinking, ask questions, and help them develop the confidence to tackle unfamiliar problems independently. I believe mathematics is learnt by doing, so lessons are practice-heavy and tailored to each student's strengths and areas for improvement.
Research on learning and attention suggests that sustained concentration begins to decline after around 45–60 minutes, so my standard lessons are 60 minutes long. This provides enough time to introduce concepts, work through examples, practise independently, and review mistakes without overwhelming students. Longer sessions are available before exams, but they are broken into focused blocks with short breaks to maximise retention.
I have over four years' experience tutoring mathematics through MyTutor and have also served as a Teaching Assistant at Columbia University. These experiences taught me that students perform best when they feel supported, challenged, and confident. I place a strong emphasis on building self-belief, making lessons engaging, and celebrating progress, creating an environment where students are comfortable asking questions and developing genuine curiosity.
My lessons are designed for students aged 11–16 studying Key Stage 3 and GCSE Mathematics.
For families interested in US university admissions, I also offer separate mentoring on building Ivy League-calibre applications, including extracurricular strategy, personal statements, and admissions planning.
Recommendations
Recommendations come from relatives, friends and acquaintances of the teacher
Each year, Sharon offers pro-bono tuition services to a few of our disenfranchised BAME students at the I-House facility in London. They all complimented her efforts, and specifically applauded her professionalism and devotion to their emotional and intellectual wellbeing. A true gem!
I worked with Sharon three years ago, just before A-levels. She's great. I enjoyed her lessons and she's super humble. I never felt she was condescending even though she's incredibly smart! Great teacher
Sharon Ordor tutored two of my daughters, both of whom attended Lady Eleanor Holles School. My older daughter was predicted a B-grade and with Sharon's expert guidance, she attained an A*. My younger daughter on the other hand was predicted a C-grade and attained an A.
All this is to say that Sharon is an expert at what she does. She's engaging, funny and incredibly skilled at breaking down complex topics into bitesize comprehensible tidbits. Her use of a digital 'whiteboard' is particularly innovative.
Please please go with her! She's GREAT at what she does!View more recommendations
