About Ben

I am a rising sophomore at Columbia University with a strong academic track record and a passion for teaching. Last year I achieved a 5 on the AP Calc BC test, and last semester, I earned an A+ in Calculus III giving me both the knowledge and the firsthand experience to guide you through foundational courses like algebra, calculus I, and more. Last summer, I tutored students one-on-one in algebra and geometry, helping them significantly boost their GPAs in both classes. I am committed to creating a supportive and engaging environment where questions are always welcome. You can count on me to be prepared, respectful of your time, and genuinely invested in your success! I am from the Upper West Side in NYC, so anywhere in Manhattan is most preferred!

About the lesson

Hi! I’m Ben, a Columbia University student with a deep passion for mathematics, and I’m here to make subjects like Algebra and Calculus I not just understandable, but actually enjoyable. My approach is all about clarity, and patience. I start by breaking down complex ideas into simple steps, and I adapt my teaching style to match how you learn best whether that’s visual explanations, practice problems, or real world examples, you just let me know! A typical session for me starts with a quick check-in to understand where you’re stuck or what concepts you want to review. From there, we walk through targeted problems together, or any problems you have difficulty with, fill in any knowledge gaps, and then build up your skills through guided practice, always making sure you feel confident before moving on. What sets me apart is that I’ve been in your shoes not too long ago. I know what it’s like to struggle with a tricky concept or to feel overwhelmed before a test. But I also know what it takes to master the material: I recently earned an A+ in Calculus III and am currently doing exceptionally well in other technical courses such as Introduction to Java and Principles of Economics. Beyond the grades, I care deeply about making learning feel empowering and even exciting. Whether you’re a middle school student, high school student, college freshman, or just getting started in these subjects, I’m here to help you truly understand the material, not just memorize it. Let’s work together to turn your confusion into confidence!
