About Thomas
Hello! I am Tom, and I’m a friendly and patient tutor from Warwick with a passion for helping children develop confidence and enjoyment in Maths. When I was younger, I often found it hard to keep up with the rest of the kids in class, it often seemed that others would understand things so much quicker than I and I just couldn't keep up, so instead of following what everyone else was doing, I decided to start working in a way which was best suited to me. One size doesn't fit all, and especially when it comes to learning! That mindset, of working with the type of person I was, rather than comparing myself to others, helped me achieve a Grade 8 in GCSE Maths (equivalent to an A-star today), and it’s a principle I bring to my tutoring as well: every child learns differently, and that with the right support, tailored to their specific needs, all can succeed. I hold a First Class Honours degree in Philosophy, and I’ve often taught Maths to my younger sister and cousins, developing a tutoring style that’s patient, encouraging, and often a little bit goofy! I’ve always loved working with kids, and I get real joy from seeing that moment when something finally clicks — when a student understands something they didn’t before. I believe that learning doesn’t have to be serious to be effective — the best progress often happens when students feel relaxed and engaged. I’m in the process of completing my DBS check, and I’m always reliable, communicative, and clear with both students and parents. Above all, I work hard to see things from a student’s perspective, so I can help them build understanding in a way that truly makes sense to them.

I'm a Maths tutor with a passion for making numbers and problem-solving fun, relatable, and engaging—especially for Key Stage 2 learners aged 7–11. I believe that with the right examples and a bit of imagination, every student can enjoy and feel confident with Maths. I use a combination of online whiteboarding tools and physical workbooks that align with the Key Stage 2 syllabus, helping to break complex topics into manageable parts. I often bring in silly or creative real-life scenarios to help concepts stick and make learning more enjoyable. A typical lesson lasts around an hour and is structured to help students stay focused and involved. We’ll begin with a 10-minute recap of previous learning and a look at what’s coming up, followed by about 30 minutes of focused questions and guided practice. We’ll wrap up with a 10-minute review of what we’ve learned and how we’re progressing. Although I don’t have formal teaching experience, I hold a strong academic background, including a Grade 8 (Equivalent to an A*) in GCSE Maths, and a First Class Honours degree in Philosophy. I enjoy helping others learn and grow, and I’m always keen to make sessions collaborative—sometimes even encouraging students to challenge me with homework or questions of their own! Whether your child is looking to build their confidence, prepare for assessments, or simply find a bit more enjoyment in Maths, I aim to meet them at their level and build from there.
