About Nathan
I am a graduate of the United States Military Academy and have a Master of Dispute Resolution and Public Policy from Pepperdine University. I teach a course for State and Local Governments on how to resolve conflict and planned and implemented a Peer Mediation program in a local high school in Ventura County, CA. I have also directly worked with youth in the foster care system or in disadvantaged situation for 6 years. I am passionate about teaching youth how to walk through a process of understanding and knowing themselves, their worth, and how to leverage that to choose excellent friends, build healthy relationships and become future successful adults.

My approach to life-skills coaching starts from one core idea: every skill a young person needs — communication, boundaries, conflict resolution, leadership — grows out of how they understand their own worth and how they see worth in others. Rather than teaching these as a checklist of unrelated tips, I build every lesson on that same foundation, so a student isn't just memorizing what to say in a tough moment, but developing a settled sense of who they are that makes the right response come more naturally. This is why we always start there before moving into specific skills like reading people and situations, assertive communication, healthy boundaries, negotiation, and resolving conflict — each one is an application of that same root idea, not a separate unit disconnected from the last.
In practice, sessions are hands-on rather than lecture-based. Each one centers on real-life scenarios and role-play — practicing an actual disagreement with a friend, a tense moment with a difficult peer, a negotiation over something they both want — because skills like these are built through repetition and practice, not just conversation about them. I tailor every scenario to the individual student's actual life: their friendships, their interests, their sport or hobby, their specific challenges — so what we practice together is something they can use that same week, not an abstract example. My goal isn't just for a student to know the right answer in the moment we discuss it, but to have actually rehearsed it enough times that it holds up when they need it for real.
