About David

Teaching guitar for the past 9 years has been more than just a career—it’s been a way to build real connections through music. I’ve worked with students from high school through college, and what I’ve learned is that no two musical journeys are the same. That’s why my teaching method is highly personalized. From the start, I aim to understand your musical goals, whether you want to play your favorite songs, perform, compose, or simply build a relaxing, creative hobby. I focus on foundational skills—such as rhythm, picking technique, chord knowledge, and fretboard fluency—but I always tailor the material to your interests. If you’re into indie rock, we’ll use that. If you’re curious about jazz, we’ll explore its unique harmony. I want my students to feel inspired and in control of their learning. I often bring in creative elements like improvisation, songwriting prompts, or performance coaching, so that you’re not just learning how to play—you’re learning how to express yourself. One of the most meaningful teaching experiences I’ve had was watching a student go from struggling with self-doubt to confidently performing an original song at a school concert. My goal is to help students grow at their own pace, with plenty of support and encouragement. Every lesson is a step forward—not just in technique, but in confidence and musical joy.

About the lesson

Over the past 9 years, teaching guitar has become more than just a job for me—it’s a passion that fuels my love for music and connecting with others. Each student I teach brings their own story and musical interests, which motivates me to customize lessons that feel personal, meaningful, and inspiring.

I don’t believe in a “one size fits all” approach; instead, I focus on building strong fundamentals tailored to each learner’s pace and style. Whether it’s developing finger strength, mastering strumming patterns, or understanding chord theory, I make sure students grasp the “why” behind each technique.

One of the highlights of my teaching journey was working with a teenager who was shy and unsure of their abilities but wanted to learn songs by their favorite artists. Through consistent practice and positive reinforcement, that student blossomed into a confident player who performed solo at a school event. Moments like these are what remind me how transformative music education can be. I encourage my students to not just mimic songs but to experiment creatively—improvising, composing, and expressing themselves through the guitar.

My lessons incorporate a balance of reading music, playing by ear, and exploring different styles to keep things fresh and engaging. I’m also a firm believer that technology can enhance learning, so I integrate tools like backing tracks, loopers, and metronomes to improve timing and musicality. Above all, I strive to create a safe, supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and taking risks. Music has a unique way of building discipline, patience, and joy, and I am grateful to guide others through that journey as they unlock their potential on the guitar.
