About Dane
Dane Yates is composer and collaborator focusing on electroacoustic practices and the relationship between music, dance and film. His work focuses on the organic and the subversion of subject, resulting in commissioned works, performances throughout Australia, and a release on Perth based label Twice Removed. Dane has continually collaborated with dance and movement based works through WAAPA (Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts) and dance companies STRUT and Co3 as well as independent works leading to award winning pieces in the 2016, 2017 and 2018 Perth Fringe and performances in Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide Fringe Festivals. In 2017 Dane was awarded a grant through The Department of Culture and the Arts to undertake residency in Sydney with composer Nick Wales, collaborating with Sydney Dance Company as well as artists including Sarah Blasko. In 2018 Dane was accepted into the Bundanon Artist in Residence Program, completing a two week residency working on a commissioned work for Greywing Trio (WA). Dane has also launched and managed a tape label Second Iteration Tapes, releasing music and sound art initially used within multidisciplinary and collaborative works since 2017. Dane’s collaboration with film has led to screenings around Australia and internationally, including an award winning score in the 2016 Revelation Film Festival (WA) for “Revelation Award for Best Music Soundtrack”. Dane currently holds a Bachelor of Music (Honours) in composition and music technology through WAAPA.

I've been teaching since out of high school for seven years with my experience with students ranging from 4 years old to students in their 60s and 70s. I can teach instrumental practices of piano and drums to beginners and intermediate students although I primarily now teach electronic production, composition, songwriting and music theory. The lessons are structured around an experimental focus on functional sounds and how to get interesting results from an industry practice.
Lessons will be tailored to the individual needs of the students and can expect to learn any of the following;
