About Satoshi

A native of Japan, Satoshi Kanazawa is a New York City-based composer of classical and contemporary music and pianist. His original music and arranged works are performed in the U.S., Canada, Belgium, and Japan. Kanazawa received many awards and grants such as the Shelley Pinz Professional Development Grant (2017), the Hirosaki Sakurano Sono Composition Competition (Grand Prize with Hirosaki City Mayor Award and Hifumi Shimoyama Award, 2015), the Lin Yao Ji International Competition for Composition (Grand Prize, 2014), the NYFA Artists’ Fellowship with the additional title of Gregory Millard Fellow (2013), and the 6th JFC Composers Award (2011). He is also active as a pianist and frequently performs in and around New York. He released his debut piano album, entitled "Flowing Blue", by Mar Creation Records in 2009 to showcase his unique style of music. His music encompasses a wide variety of styles and genres - from tonal music to atonalism, and from serious music to children's music. His works include solo, vocal, chamber, and orchestral pieces. Kanazawa has more than 25 years of experience teaching piano and composition as well as music theory and ear training from the age of 5 and up.

Kanazawa graduated from Tokyo University of the Arts, and is a certified teacher of The STEINWAY Teacher and Educational Partners (STEPs).
