About Karsten

I grew up in an encouraging music environment. Many relatives had gone to conservatory for music or played professionally before I was even born. Naturally I was introduced to piano lessons early when I was 6 years old. They proved challenging to me and I eventually stopped lessons for a short while after about 6 years. However in this time I became interested in composition and music theory. Within a few years, I was back at living life to the fullest learning everything I could about music. Since then I have not turned back and I continue to make myself a student to music every day! I have since studied with various teachers of pedagogy ranging all the way to esteemed alumni of Juilliard School of Music. I also privately practiced and studied in grade school and past High School graduation. In terms of work I have completed and music I have done, I have written and composed hundreds of pieces, won and competed in various composition competitions, scored a handful of short films and professional features, competed in various piano competitions, and regularly serve my church as its keyboard accompanist. I have also taught myself how to play electric bass. That aside, I thoroughly love music and hope I can share this gift and completely learnable practice to others!

About the lesson

Offering a digital yet very hands-on approach to learning piano/keyboard. Different beginner/intermediate students have different learning styles and therefore curriculum is tailored based on weakness/strength. Points of emphasis (strengths): - Technique - Ear Training/Ability - Theory/Understanding Some common goals of all the lessons are to increase student's musicality, be able to enjoy music more by understanding it better, and to have fun while pursuing excellence! All students will be introduced to these concepts early on and will have more work done on specific aspects that are weaker. The goal is to make a more whole musician as much as possible! Lessons can range from 1/2 Hour to 1 Hour at a time depending on student needs and appointment. Materials used will be online and optional written work if necessary for theory knowledge.
