About Karsten

I grew up in an encouraging musical environment. Many of my relatives attended music conservatories or played professionally, so I was naturally introduced to piano lessons at an early age, beginning when I was six years old. Although I found lessons challenging and eventually took a short break after about six years of study, it was during this time that I developed a growing interest in composition and music theory.

Within a few years, I returned to music with a renewed passion, learning everything I could about the craft. Since then, I have never looked back, and I continue to approach music as a lifelong student. I have studied with various teachers and instructors in music and piano pedagogy, including esteemed alumni of the Juilliard School. I also continued studying and practicing independently throughout grade school, high school, and beyond.

Over the years, I have written and composed hundreds of pieces, competed in and won composition competitions, scored a number of short films and professional projects, competed in piano competitions, and regularly served my church as a keyboard accompanist. In addition to piano, I taught myself to play electric bass as well as acoustic and electric guitar. Most recently, I recorded and released a full length worship album where I featured as producer/engineer/singer/writer/pianist/guitarist with a group of other seasoned musicians.

Above all, I genuinely love music. I hope to share that love with others and help students discover that music is not simply a gift some people are born with, but a skill and art form that can be learned, practiced, and enjoyed.

About the lesson

Offering a digital yet very hands-on approach to learning piano/keyboard. Different beginner/intermediate students have different learning styles and therefore curriculum is tailored based on weakness/strength. Points of emphasis (strengths): - Technique - Ear Training/Ability - Theory/Understanding Some common goals of all the lessons are to increase student's musicality, be able to enjoy music more by understanding it better, and to have fun while pursuing excellence! All students will be introduced to these concepts early on and will have more work done on specific aspects that are weaker. The goal is to make a more whole musician as much as possible! Lessons can range from 1/2 Hour to 1 Hour at a time depending on student needs and appointment. More details can be discussed during lessons.
