I can teach up to a college level, and I've taught all ages, though I'm incapable of teaching anyone younger than 6. If you're an advanced student, there's a lot of directions we can take your lessons. Expect that whatever you want to do with music, I can help you do it.
Reading music is important, and so is being able to improvise. These are things I'll encourage you to do to get the most out of our lessons. We can take the lesson in whatever direction you like, however I will always strive to relate what we're talking about to all kinds of music, and also tie it back to classical or jazz music, as I've found it to be the case that all Western music can be traced to one of those two origins.
Together, we will read new music and talk about what makes music, music! Also, we will look at scales and other technical studies together, both establishing what and why they are, as well as actually putting them in your muscle memory so that you can shred with them!
After scales and technique comes new music, and different kinds of music.
I am a graduate of Wayne State University in Detroit. I've played classical and jazz saxophone for 10 years total, and piano for around 10 years. I've composed since 2014--mostly for video game and animation projects, with a film or two. I use Cubase to compose primarily, but I'm familiar with DAWS and notation software. I've taught all ages for the last 4 years in piano, saxophone, composition, theory and beginner woodwinds.
I will travel 15mi away from the city for $8 extra--each additional five miles will be $8 more.
