About Kirk
Bachelors of Science (Honors) in International Studies from the University of Utah's Department of Languages & Cultures and the Marriot Honors College. Emphasis on Justice and International Security. Capstone and post graduate work on the impact of Chinese soft-power hegemony in sub-Saharan Africa.
Well equipped to educate on college level coursework (e.g. AP) in History, Government, current events, Civics, or geo-politics.
Also can prepare student for Model United Nations, or Model Youth and Government programs.

First, let me tell you about myself. I am very patient by nature. That being said, I have extremely high standards for myself, these standards have pushed me to be successful in both my academic and professional careers. As such, I expect my students to approach our lessons with a determination to better themselves. That being said I do not expect them to succeed in mastering the subject immediately as that is not a reasonable expectation for young adults. Instead I will work with them to build a framework for learning which will in turn allow them to exceed any previous expectations and lead fulfilling and successful lives. Due to the rigorous nature of the process, I only accept post-primary students with a history of academic achievement who are preparing for the next level of education. My methods equip students to succeed in academically rigorous undergraduate programs, but do not lend themselves well to rout memorization and repetition.
I specialize in teaching World History, US History, US Civics/Government, European History, and Geo-Politics.
I teach using the Learn, Do, Teach methodology which emphasizes seminar based learning similar to what a student can expect to encounter in a modern university lecture. The Learn, Do, Teach methodology will prepare students to participate in collegiate and post-graduate seminars.
From my first day with new students I emphasize on building learning behaviors which will enable the student succeed. This is done by training the students mind to intake information, synthesize and combine the information with their pre-existing knowledge of the subject, and prepare the information for presentation. The ideal outcome of this process is not necessarily mastery of the subject, instead the process is designed to enable students to identify and articulate gaps in their own understanding. This will in turn enable them to repeat the process as required, with each iteration increasing their expertise on the subject.
