About Sarah
I am a mum of 2 boys and Head of Department living in the North East. When I’m not busy with the boys, I love attending group exercise classes and even teach a couple each week too. I enjoy listening to music and the outdoors too, in particular the Lake District. I used to be an international swimmer before moving to education and represented GB and England at the Commonwealth Games, World Championships and European Championships. I was also British champion a number of times.

I am a UK-qualified secondary teacher of Computer Science and Head of Department at an independent school in the North East, with nearly 20 years’ experience teaching ICT and Computer Science from KS3 to KS5. I hold a PGCE and an MSc (Distinction) in Computer-Based Information Systems, combining practical classroom experience with advanced subject knowledge. I offer one-to-one Computer Science tutoring for students from KS3 through to A Level. I have a particular expertise in Python programming and enjoy helping students build their coding skills, problem-solving abilities, and confidence. My tutoring is tailored to each student’s needs, focusing on areas where they want to improve and helping them achieve their academic goals. In addition to classroom teaching, I am an experienced examiner and team leader, having worked with Edexcel, CIE, and OCR for GCSE and OCR A Level. I also have a background as an examiner, team leader, and principal moderator for A Level ICT, giving me deep insight into assessment criteria, exam expectations, and how students can maximise their results. I take a flexible, student-focused approach to tutoring. I adapt sessions to suit individual learning styles and have experience supporting students with SEND, ensuring each lesson is engaging, effective, and enjoyable. My patient and friendly manner helps students feel confident and motivated, whether they are preparing for exams, developing programming skills, or exploring computer science beyond the classroom. With a strong combination of teaching experience, exam knowledge, and practical coding expertise, I aim to help every student reach their potential and develop a genuine interest in Computer Science.
