I take a friendly, patient and practical approach to teaching Computer Science. My aim is not simply to show you how to solve a particular problem, but to help you understand the underlying concepts so that you can apply them independently.
I adapt each lesson to the student's current ability and goals. Depending on what you need, lessons can involve explaining concepts, working through examples together, solving programming problems, reviewing and debugging code, or developing a practical project. For programming and AI topics, I particularly like to use hands-on exercises and live coding so that you gain practical experience rather than just learning theory.
Typical lesson
Lessons are normally one hour, although I can be flexible depending on the student's age, level and requirements.
A typical session might involve:
Reviewing progress since the previous lesson
Identifying and explaining any areas causing difficulty
Working through practical examples or programming exercises
Applying the concepts to a problem or project
Reviewing what has been learnt and identifying areas to work on before the next session
Lessons are delivered online, using video conferencing and screen sharing. For programming lessons, we can work together on code and I can demonstrate techniques and help you understand and debug your own programmes.
