About Meklit

With several years of tutoring experience across math, physics, and computer science, I bring both expertise and a supportive teaching style to every session. I’ve worked as a computer science teaching assistant at Vanderbilt University, a peer tutor throughout high school, and an independent tutor for students ranging from elementary school to college. I’ve taught online and in person, in both one-on-one and small group settings. Students appreciate my approachable, encouraging style: I use humor to keep things engaging while pushing them to think critically and build confidence. My priority is helping each student truly understand the material so they can succeed independently.

About the lesson

As a STEM tutor, I find that most students learn best with a visual approach. That means I rely on drawing diagrams, concept maps, and flowcharts. When I first begin working with a particular student, I like to get a diagnostic by having them solve a few problems that test several areas at once. Then I tailor my lessons to what they need help with. Each session begins with seeing if they have any questions and trying to use their notes/lecture materials to guide their thinking. Then we'll move on to problem-solving at their pace, where they explain their methodology. I will point out errors and highlight their achievements throughout. The goal of each lesson is to leave feeling like you could teach anyone what you just learned and understand its relevance.
