About Jose

Before university, I studied at Cardinal Vaughan Memorial School where I have gained extensive tutoring experience on a weekly basis for the past two years. I gave individual Maths lessons to GCSE students to help them attain a pass grade so that they continue their education into sixth form or elsewhere, with one student achieving a 7 having been predicted a 4. I also assisted my teacher in running extra GCSE Computer Science classes after school to help students develop their programming skills. This experience enabled me to learn to not only help abled students push themselves further but also motivate students to gain confidence in their only abilities. As a Computer Science undergraduate, I now use my programming and mathematical skills on a daily basis and I aim to ensure that my students not only get the grades they want, and may need, but that they enjoy the subject as I do.

About the lesson

The first step for every student will be to identifying areas of strength and weaknesses. I am more than happy to arrange a free "meet the tutor" session where we can go through the subject’s specification in order to organize specific topics into three lists: topics already covered and are confident with; topics covered and want to go over; and topics you have yet to cover. From these lists we can devise a plan/timetable for the student to follow as to ensure that all topics have been learnt and re-learnt before the exam period.
The next priority would be to test the student where they are strong. A series of specific past paper questions would be sufficient for me to gauge the student’s level understanding of covered topics. This is to ensure that before we push onto new or harder topics; they are secure in what they have already learnt.
Lessons start with feedback from previous work which would have already been sent to me before the lesson so that I can mark it before the lesson. If I am satisfied with the level of comprehension of the previously learnt topic we can then move on. Learning will mainly be based around past paper questions of the topic as as they show what is to be expected in their exams. I will also use past papers to assess understanding at the end of the lesson and for homework if necessary, as if I know that a student understands the topic well I do not believe in adding unnecessary workload.
If a student encounters any problems over the week with the homework or any other work they can feel free to contact me during the week as to not take from the lesson time.
