My teaching method involves explaining a topic to the students and asking questions to see where their level of understanding is. Then the topic is reviewed with actual work and I provide assistance upon request or seeing a student clearly struggling. Finally, all topics should be used together for a final project. Although I think it's important to figure things out independently, asking for help is also a skill and I'm happy to take as long as is needed to explain things clearly.
