I am an adult student - starting in my late 50's. I have always loved classical music but life events only allowed me to start piano after kids have gone to college. Hermes knew my strengths and weaknesses - natural passion for classical music, but slow brains and stiff figures - and adjusted courses to fit my mental and physical characteristics. He knows I like Beethoven, Mozart, and Chopin, and found creative ways to teach me original (not watered-down) pieces to stimulate my interest because anything that sounded different from the original compositions would sound strange to an adult. These great composers built essential piano skills into their compositions even for beginners. It would be easier for the teacher to find published lesson books with simple notes, but that would not work for adult students - these students know the pieces they want to play and the teacher has to find ways to teach them. I have been learning from Hermes for four years, and I have developed basic skills by playing piano pieces I enjoy without having to go through tedious practices for the sake of practices. Hermes is a good teacher who guides adult students on the road of learning piano through encouragement, excitement, to accomplish the goal of adult learning - enjoying great classical music.

Mr. Castillo is such an amazing professor. He has the patient to work with kids, and knows exactly how to keep them engaged and entertained. I wouldn’t want another professor for my kids. Sometimes he’s a little demanding but it’s for the kid’s own good. Practice makes perfection, and he wants to kids to learn and parents to see their money well spent.
