About Andrea

I’m an undergraduate student at Concordia University studying Pure and Applied Mathematics. I have always excelled at math and science courses and would love to help you excel as well. I have been tutoring math for elementary and high school students since 2020. I have also tutored cégep level Mathematics such as Cal 1 and Cal 2. I’ve worked in a tutoring center offering group tutoring to kids of all ages so I have a lot of experience working with different people at different levels. I have also worked for John Abbott College as a Cal 1 tutor as part of their TAP program. I’m always available to help students with any homework they need help with. I can teach in English or Spanish, but I also understand French. I would love to help you understand one of my favorite subjects and help you see how fun math can be! My goal is to make sure the student fully understands the course material by creating a safe and positive environment where they can ask all the questions they have so they leave the tutoring session with no doubts! I believe everyone is capable of understanding any math concept, easy or difficult. Therefore, I always try to provide different angles on a problem to see what resonates most with the student. I also take the time to review the material as many times as necessary until the student fully understands it.

  • When and why did you develop an interest in your chosen field?

I first started to like math when I was in grade 4, I had an amazing teacher that made class really fun and I finally started to understand it better. However, it wasn't until secondary 1 that I truly discovered my love for math when we started doing algebra problems. After that, there was no going back.
  • What makes you passionate about your subject?

I love the fact that math is like a universal language that doesn't change regardless of where you are. When I arrived to Montreal, math class was the only class that made me feel confident as I couldn't understand any french.
  • What do you like about tutoring? What makes you a "Superprof"?

I love helping others understand math concepts. I feel like when someone truly understands you can see a little imaginary light bulb on their head lighting up and there's nothing more satisfactory. I think that what makes me a "Superprof" is my patience and continuous encouragement. I love seeing others succeed, so I always try to take the necessary time to make sure my students understand.
  • Do you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you? Please explain.

Even though I had always loved math and was good at it, I had never truly considered studying math as a career until I met my Cal 2 teacher. She made class so fun and helped me so much in discovering what math could be. I feel like if it hadn't been for some of the amazing teachers I had growing up, I would've never realized how fun and exciting math can be and that's why I want to help others see this as well.
  • What are your keys to success?

I believe that to be successful you need to be patient and have a positive attitude. I also think developing good note-taking skills and paying attention in class is crucial to succeed in any class. Also, don't be afraid to ask questions as you will never fully understand a concept unless you ask about it.
