About Umer
A Message to My Future Students
Hello! My name is Umer Khayam and I’m a passionate Maths and English tutor who genuinely enjoys helping students grow in confidence and ability.
I want to teach because I know how much the right support can change a student’s experience of learning. Many students struggle not because they aren’t capable, but because concepts weren’t explained in a way that suited them. I love being the person who helps things finally “click.”
For me, tutoring isn’t just about improving grades — it’s about:
• Building confidence
• Developing independent thinking
• Creating a safe space to ask questions
• Helping students believe in their own potential
Maths and English are foundational subjects that open doors to future opportunities. I want to help my students feel comfortable tackling challenges, whether that’s solving tricky equations, analysing texts, or writing strong essays.
My goal is always to make lessons supportive, engaging, and productive — where progress feels achievable and learning feels positive.

My tutoring approach is student-centred, structured, and confidence-building. I believe that every student learns differently, so I adapt my teaching style to suit individual needs, strengths, and goals.
For Maths, I:
• Break down complex concepts into clear, manageable steps
• Use real-life examples to make abstract ideas easier to understand
• Focus on problem-solving strategies rather than memorisation
• Reinforce learning through guided practice and exam-style questions
For English, I:
• Develop reading comprehension through guided analysis and discussion
• Strengthen writing skills with structured frameworks and model answers
• Focus on grammar and vocabulary in context
• Build confidence in essay writing, creative writing, and exam responses
I regularly assess understanding through quick recap questions and mini quizzes, ensuring students fully grasp a topic before moving on. I also provide constructive feedback and clear improvement targets.

Typical Lesson Length
Lessons typically last 60 minutes, which allows enough time to:
• Review previous learning
• Teach new content
• Practise key skills
• Address questions
Longer sessions (90 minutes) are available for exam preparation or older students who need deeper focus.
