About Des
With a background in composition, with degrees from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Royal Academy of Music, and a PhD from Oxford University, I bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to every lesson. My professional experience extends to collaborations with renowned ensembles such as the London Symphony Orchestra, Chineke!, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, and the Bach Choir, among others.
I also share my insights as a tutor at Oxford University where I teach undergraduate composition. I have taught a range of students from beginner to doctoral/PhD level.
In addition to my University experience, I have taught under-18s at Junior Trinity-Laban College of Music, Aldebugh Youth Music (AYM), and currently teach at Junior Royal Academy of Music.
My dedication to music education has led me to share my expertise at institutions like Brunel University and the Academy of Contemporary Music (where I've delved into the realms of music technology and contemporary pop music genres, and film music).

I'm Des Oliver, an experienced composer, lecturer, and educator with a passion for nurturing talent and igniting creative sparks. I'm thrilled to offer personalised online composition lessons (or Music theory lessons) that cater to students of all levels, all ages and aspirations. Whether you're preparing for exams, honing your craft as a composer or songwriter, or simply exploring the world of composition, my tailored instruction will empower you to reach new heights of musical expression.
