About Paul

As a dedicated violinist with over a decade of experience, I am passionate about sharing the joy and beauty of this instrument with students of all ages. My extensive training includes studying violin performance at Vanderbilt University with renowned professor Dr. Maria Romero Ramos, participating in prestigious programs like the Green Mountain Chamber Music Festival, and performing solos with orchestras like the Beaverton Symphony.

However, what truly drives me is witnessing the growth and accomplishments of my students. I employ a patient, nurturing approach that breaks down concepts into easy-to-understand steps. My lessons focus on establishing proper technique from the ground up, allowing students to build a strong foundation for long-term success. I carefully select repertoire that aligns with each student's interests and abilities to keep them inspired and engaged.

In addition to my musical credentials, I have a proven track record of leadership and teaching experience. As the lead violin instructor for Project Prelude, I guided over 50 elementary students in mastering the fundamentals up to Suzuki Book 1. My lessons emphasize body posture, dexterity, and bow technique - the essential building blocks for any beginning violinist.

Whether you are an adult pursuing a new passion or a young student taking your first steps into the world of music, I am committed to providing a supportive, individualized learning environment. Together, we will celebrate each milestone and find joy in the journey of musical discovery. I look forward to the opportunity to be your guide in this rewarding pursuit.

As a violin tutor, my primary goal is to create a supportive and engaging learning environment that caters to the individual needs and goals of each student. My teaching approach is grounded in patience, clear communication, and a deep understanding of violin pedagogy.

Teaching Method and Techniques:

I tailor my teaching methods to suit the learning style, skill level, and interests of each student. This personalized approach ensures that the lessons are relevant, effective, and enjoyable. I will begin teaching from Suzuki book 1 and teach the fundamentals of violin playing like posture, bow hand techniques, and left-hand intonation.

A Typical Lesson Plan:

Warm-up exercises: Each lesson begins with warm-up exercises tailored to the student's current level and focus areas. These exercises help develop essential skills like tone production, intonation, and dexterity.

Review and feedback: I review the previous week's assignments, providing constructive feedback and addressing any challenges or questions the student may have encountered.
I introduce new concepts, techniques, or repertoire pieces, breaking them down into manageable steps and providing clear explanations and demonstrations.

Practice strategies: I guide students in developing effective practice strategies, such as breaking down challenging passages, using practice tools (e.g., metronome, tuner), and setting achievable goals.
