About Ronen
I'm a professional violist and violinist based in Toronto, and a member of the Dior String Quartet. My training runs through Tel Aviv (Bachelor's degree with distinction, Buchmann-Mehta School of Music) and Leipzig, Germany, where I earned my Master's degree with distinction and the Meisterklassendiplom at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater "Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy," studying with Prof. Tatjana Masurenko. From there I moved into teaching at the conservatory level myself — as faculty at HMT Leipzig, then as assistant lecturer in Prof. Masurenko's viola class at the Haute École de Musique (HEMU) in Sion, Switzerland — before bringing that same standard to private students, including over a decade teaching children.
Alongside teaching, I perform internationally as a chamber musician and soloist, with festival appearances across Europe — including the Mas Musici chamber music festival in France — and broadcasts for Deutschlandfunk Kultur, MDR Kultur, and Israeli radio. In 2014, I won 1st Prize at the International Anton Rubinstein Competition in Düsseldorf. My own focus as a musician — chamber music and 19th-century performance practice — shapes what I bring into a lesson: not just how to play a passage, but why it works.
That combination — conservatory training, an active performing career, and years of private teaching — is what I bring to every lesson, whatever level you're starting from.

Teaching is something I genuinely love — I'm patient by nature and always enthusiastic about sharing what I know, whatever your starting point. I welcome students of every level, from complete beginners to advanced players, including beginning and amateur adults, who often bring more focus and curiosity to lessons than they give themselves credit for. There's no such thing as starting "too late" or not being "serious enough" — every student gets the same encouraging, unhurried attention. Lessons are built around your goals and your schedule, on viola or violin, in person in Toronto or online.
