About Alex
Hi, I’m Alex — a committed, friendly and highly experienced tutor specialising in all GCSE core subjects. Whilst I hold a Biomedical Sciences (BSc) degree & foundation degree, I’ve spent the last few years working closely with students in a tutoring capacity, often assisting those with SEND or low engagement with mainstream education. My sole aim is to help them build confidence, independence and, in time, real academic progress. In my heart, I believe every student has a valuable skill set already within them, sometimes they just need a more personal approach to their teaching and learning, and some extra support to access it. Every student, in my eyes, has the capability to succeed. Outside tutoring, I develop / create full sets of tailored GCSE resources — from Triple Science lessons with diagrams and visual aids, to English Language exam practice papers with mark schemes, model answers and engaging story extracts (which I personally ensure matches their interests outside of the classroom to increase engagement). I also work with families one-to-one, especially those who are home-educating. Often, I help them to liaise with the Local Authorities and prepare for reviews, help plan academic itineraries, and have even worked full-time educating students on occasion. If you’re looking for a tutor who understands different learning needs, can build a strong rapport, and genuinely cares about long-term progress, I’d love to work with you.

It is essential that lessons are always tailored to each student’s needs across all core subjects — Maths, English and Science. I personally do this through open communication with the student and parents on where they feel the challenges lie, and by building a strong foundational knowledge in each subject that is progressively built upon. I begin every journey by understanding how each student learns best. Lessons across the board are supportive and well-paced so that students feel confident before moving on to the next topic. Whether it’s strengthening basic skills, preparing for GCSEs, or improving overall confidence in schoolwork, I create a plan that fits each student's goals. I use a multimodal approach in online lessons through hosting the calls on Microsoft Teams, sharing a live interactive whiteboard on my Canva subscription and sharing my screen for any other resources, such as PPTs, PDFs, exam papers etc. I also have a whole host of revision guides, practice workbooks, flashcards, and textbooks to be used for face-to-face lessons. SEND Support: I have extensive experience working with students who have SEND, including ADHD, autism, anxiety, processing difficulties and low engagement. Where required, my lessons can follow a predictable structure, using set learning objectives, and pre-planned activities, or mini-chunks within each lesson to break topics down. I provide a warm and nurturing space for students to learn within, and use lots of positive reinforcement, and praise to encourage each learner. I often go above and beyond for students, taking one home-educated student (& his brother) on a day trip, giving out sweets and other small incentive rewards for effort or attainment, and generally doing all I can to support and encourage students to learn because I genuinely do care about their success. Parents receive regular updates on progress and next steps, and I ensure each student leaves every session feeling more confident than when they arrived.
