About Jay

My name is Jay (They/Them), and I’m a current student at Flinders University and TafeSA studying a Bachelor of Costume Design, along with being an avid cosplayer. The skills I have learned in my time so far studying have already vastly improved my already known skills. I love to take characters and add to their costumes, adding a touch of myself to every costume I make!

About the lesson

I’m here to help in any area that you need. My sessions are tailored to suit the student and their needs, working at the pace of the student and the skills and techniques they want to learn to advance their skills!

I can teach a range of;
- Basic sewing skills
- Advanced, industry standard skills
- Pattern making
- Different types of machines and sewing techniques!

I recently had to alter a pair of pants for the first time and when tutorials on YouTube didn't help, I turned to jay and they were able to break things down and explain them in a much simpler way than anything I had seen online and helped me form a gameplan and my pants turned out fantastic! I highly recommend Jay, especially if you're a beginner!

This first lesson offered with Jay will allow you to get to know each other and clearly specify your needs for your next lessons.

I have a wide range of knowledge in different areas of sewing and design, with my general sewing skills having been taught pattern making and sewing for both fashion garments and costume garments. I mostly specialise in intricate details and harder to understand patterns and complex garment making.

Because of this, my rates are flexible! If it’s basic sewing or pattern making knowledge, my rates will be cheaper but if you want to learn the more intricate stylings, my rates will be a little higher!
