About Amelia
I am a second year student at the University of Kent, an avid reader, and a passionate writer. I've been writing stories as long as I can remember, from the little books made of stapled sheets of printer paper as a kid to the full-length novel I have in the works now. I want to share the joy I find in writing, as well as imparting the many nuggets of writer's wisdom I've discovered over the years.

I have experience as an in-person tutor of Creative Writing, mentoring a group of approximately 15 KS3 students for a year in a group setting, presenting them with prompts and helping them improve the work they shared with me. Additionally, I have been writing as long as I can remember, and can easily recall the feeling of having big ideas and wanting to do them justice, which so many young writers feel. In honesty, I can still sometimes relate to this, and aim to build confidence in my students, teaching them to trust their creative instincts and make stories they can be proud of.
My lessons are personalised to the needs and goals of each student - if there is a book they want to write, I will help them develop it, and if they simply want to improve their writing skills, I will assist them in this. However, I will typically present them with an exercise for us to work through together; this could be creating a character from a prompt, improving a section of dialogue, or considering story structure. My exercises are aimed to work on a specific area of writing, such as character building, writing description, or plotting, and are adapted to suit the specific student.
My students can also send me work they do in their free time and I will look over it, making notes and helping them improve it collaboratively - I believe editing your own work is incredibly important for a writer, and try to foster this skill over trying to teach them how to make it perfect first try. (As the saying goes, "the first draft is for making it exist, every draft after that is for making it good"!)
