About CARMEN
After receiving my teaching credential and my masters in elementary education, I began my teaching career in San Francisco School District. I worked first hand with many Chinese immigrant students and their families to feel safe and successful in a new school community. Later, I moved closer to home and started teaching Catholic school for the Dioceses of Oakland. There, I worked with our youngest students, TK and kindergarten, to begin their reading and writing journey. Later, I moved back to working in the public sector and continued my teaching career as a first grade teacher for Piedmont Unified School District. I have years of experience working with students who are learning to become confident readers and writers.

Learning English as a second language requires dedication and consistent practice. As an experienced teacher, and an ESL graduate myself, I understand the struggle and is ready to help. I begin my sessions by completing a pretest with all of my students, and most importantly, ask my students what they want to get out of the sessions. Once a goal is set, we will come up with a learning plan to help you achieve your goal. I am patient, experienced, and is ready to work with you.
