About Molly
I have been playing piano for 12 years, am currently studying for a BA in Music at Durham University and achieved Distinction in my ABRSM Grade 8 exam in 2021. I also obtained A’s in GCSE and A Level Music.
I am also an accomplished singer-songwriter and ukulele player - my band, Roisin Dubh, have had several plays on BBC radio and have performed at festivals and an event affiliated with the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Our music has been included in successful compilation albums. As the band’s songwriter I produce the lyrics, the song’s form and structure, and as the singer and ukulele player also compose the majority of the musical elements.
Much of my own musical success was facilitated by the inspiration of individuals who taught me and provided me with opportunities and insights. I would like to be able to offer the same to students, enabling them to develop proficiency in academic musical disciplines.

I am happy to help with GCSE Music, AS and A Level Music and ABRSM theory exams in lessons available online via Zoom and Microsoft Teams.
My lessons are tailored according to individual ability, age, and experience, and will typically be 45 minutes. I will take into account the needs and interests of students when planning the lessons and will consider how best to utilise our time according to what the student wants to learn, from writing/improving lyrics and melodies and offering feedback on work, to looking at detailed aspects of music theory, harmony, voice-leading and chord progressions. I will identify a student’s strengths and areas for improvement and, in conglomeration with their interests, develop a personalised plan for achieving their goals and attaining success in exams.
I am a diligent and meticulous student myself so can offer advice on effective study skills. I will provide weekly tasks to be completed depending on what the student wishes to cover - perhaps chorale completion, counterpoint exercises, harmonisation tasks, a composition brief etc - and will offer detailed, constructive feedback to consider in future projects.
My experience as both an individual and ensemble performer as well as my positions on executive committees at University (Music Durham Concerts Manager 2021-2023, Choral Conductor of Castle Choir 2022-2024) and the modules covered in my own Music course have equipped me with a treasury of pedagogical tools to help my students grow.
