About Daniel
Working as a math tutor at 19, I've seen and empathized with my students who were unable to engage with the class. As interesting as I attempt to make math, the lesson plan can be mind-numbing at times. While working with UH/HISD and Mathnasium, however, I've come to use my personality to implement more engaged math lessons.
My calculus teacher was filled to the brim with lectures, but one particularly touching one was that so many kids can confidently read a book and deem themselves literate, but they shy away from math problems and can't call themselves "numerate". This lack of confidence in younger children coupled with the rhetoric that one is "born a math genius" puts so many students at unease. As a tutor, I make my best attempt to break students through that shell and have them see just how intuitive, yet engaging math (and by extension, physics) can really be.

I've worked with a variety of students and age groups, and as a recent high schooler I understand the struggle of attention spans and rote learning. I attempt to implement engaged learning and understand the student personally to better gage their learning style.
When introducing a lesson or topic, I usually use direct learning but may ask relevant questions to the learner and use socractic dialogue to keep the student engaged. If familiar with the topic and having trouble with a problem, I will take the steps to lay out general problem solving techniques to give the student the satisfaction of learning, or maybe a tip to solve the problem if I don't see any conceptual issues in their work.
When I self-taught to pass my AP exams, I tend to learn towards a rigid youtube course (i.e. Professor Leonard or The Math Wizard) or a textbook (i.e. Physics for Scientists and Engineers). I find giving a student the freedom and time to digest topics is needed, but I like to stick to a general time frame on when a topic should be introduced in the aforementioned textbook format.
I am able to teach K-12, but have a preference for students engaged in high school math (Algebra-Calculus) or physics. I am able to tutor up to Calculus III. I am looking to tutor in the Houston area.
