About Douglas
Hello, my name is Doug.
I am currently a maths tutor at the learning studio education centre in Sheffield (KS3, GCSE, A-Level) whilst also being in the final year of my PhD studies at the University of Sheffield.
My research looks into re-using concrete from the nuclear industry in cementitious wasteforms for nuclear waste encapsulation.
I also completed my BEng in Materials Science and Engineering at the University of Sheffield, attaining a 1st Class honours.
My Achievements at the University of Sheffield include:
> Lawson Brown Prize, 2020 (Written examination performance)
> Academic Achievement Scholarship, 2017
> Best Academic Poster Award, 2019
> Presented at the 14th International Congress on the Chemistry of Cement, Bangkok, 2023
Fun fact: before starting my PhD I was accepted to study at The University of California, Berkeley and Northwestern University but did not go because of COVID :(
I am enhanced DBS check cleared.

Doug has really helped me with my gcse maths. He goes through everything from basics and helps me to understand complex problems. We use lots of past papers in our lessons and I felt much more confident for my exam after our lessons
