I firmly believe all students can excel when the material is tailored to their individual interests. When working with new tutoring students, I always begin by asking students and families what their goals and personal interests are. With that foundation in place, it becomes much easier to find a way to make the material suitable for the individual student!
By leaning heavily on games, pneumonic devices, and routine identification and practice of a students' weaker academic areas, rapid progress can be seen in just a few sessions.
I was a full time classroom teacher for 7 years, focusing primarily on middle school history and literacy education and middle and high school test prep. I have also worked with high school students over the summers and have a real passion for education, history, and helping students succeed.
I have taught both US and world history, as well as basic literacy, social studies, and study skills for several years and am incredibly familiar with the content and skills required for success on all major exams students need to take, including AP exams, 8th grade and high school regents, and English/history subject SAT IIs.
