About Mitchell
I'm and Australian Mathematician. I have extensive experience teaching across a wide range of ages and disciplines in primary schools, high schools, and Universities. My University level teaching topics have focussed on pure and applied mathematics, statistics, and intro-physics. My primary/high school teaching has broadly covered the sciences, especially environemental science, mathematics, and physics.
I am very patient with students and have a passion for teaching. Parents are very happy with their kids progress and find me to be a good role-model thanks to my unique life-experience with travel, volunteering, and hobbies. University students also find my lessons helpful for my casual and comfortable conversation style coupled with my depth of technical knowledge that I am able to effectively communicate unitl it 'clicks'.

Depending on the subject of the lesson and the student, my approach can change. Generally, I follow an inquiry-based learning approach and guide the student to form a solid foundational understanding of concepts and develop intuition. A typical session will involve the student running through their previous/recent subject content while I search for knowledge gaps. Then we begin filling in the gaps using question-answer methods. I will cement the new findings by forming some basic problems and questions to solve. Alternatively, some students come prepared with specific problems to work on directly. In this case, I can guide the student through the problem-solving process, shaping their mindset to tackle the relevant problems. I will train their specific process and use this to improve their conceptual understanding by following problems with comprehension checks (conversational evaluation). There are many other ways that I adapt to the students' specific needs.
