About Alexander
I am a student myself, so I have a good understanding of the struggles of learning. It isn't a simple skill to develop, and when conventional methods and tips stop working, it can feel disheartening. Moreover, having basic scientific literacy in today's world is an absolute must, yet to many the barriers to reaching it are too high, and those with different needs are often left behind by the system that's unprepared to support them. I hope to change that by providing affordable 1-on-1 lessons that will help students to pass their exams, but also to take something out of their learning: be it a deeper understanding of the world around them, or an appreciation of science and research. Ultimately I hope to get to know my students well, so that I can make the lessons feel more enjoyable and less like a chore, to help them make progress more efficiently by adjusting my lesson plans, and ultimately I wish to help them become more independent and confident in their learning.

I am new to private tutoring, though I am a teaching assistant at university. This role has given me the opportunity to learn how to be a better teacher and communicator. As a PhD student I also learn new things all the time, make mistakes, and need guidance, so I am in a good position to connect with other students in a similar position, and wish to make the experience more pleasant and less stressful. I wish to use my own past experiences, with teachers and tutors, good and bad, in order to not repeat the same mistakes, and find a flexible and adaptive teaching experience to all kinds of students, since everyone has different needs. I want to particularly focus on equipping students with a mix of an intuitive and memorable understanding of the relevant concepts, the technical understanding and keywords in the given topic, as well as exam technique to get the best grades. I'm a firm believer that maths and science can be demystified by teaching the students how to think more creatively, and helping them take the first step. Many problems that seem insurmountable turn out easier than one might imagine initially, and building that confidence to just try and not panic is crucial in STEM fields for reaching the highest grades. I will also adapt my lesson length to the students needs. Whether you would prefer a shorter 30 minute session to explain a specific concept, or a 3 hour grind to revise as much as possible before an important exam, or anything in between, I will do my best to make it possible. My experience is best for teaching maths and physics, to GCSE and A-level students, ages 14+. I do not teach pre-GCSE content. I do not teach outside of STEM fields. I would also be happy to teach biology and chemistry for GCSEs as well. I will consider teaching mathematics or physics at an early undergraduate level as well, but will treat such requests on a case by case basis - all enquiries are welcome.

Details
- I am willing to give discounted rates for larger groups of students, at the rate of £8 per student for groups of 2, £6 per student for groups of 3-4 and £4 per student for groups of 5 or more. - I cap the number of students per lesson at 10. - Lessons with 2 or more students present must last a minimum of 1 hour. - Lessons that require me to travel to the pupil's home or some other public place for the lesson must last at least 1 hour. - When agreeing for a lesson, I require new students to provide me all the following details: 1. are you a GCSE, AS-level or A-level student? 2. which subject/topic do you struggle with? (eg. trigonometry, Newton's laws of motion, differential calculus, gravitational forces, etc...) 3. what exam board do you follow? (eg. AQA, edexcel, etc... ) 4. other relevant details (eg. Are you an adult learner/mature student? Are you preparing for a resit? Are you doing foundation or higher tier GCSE? What is your current situation/grades and what goals do you have in mind from this point on? Do you already know what does/doesn't work for you?, etc...)
