About Mike

Hi, I’m Mike — a First Class Honors graduate in Philosophy and Psychology, currently completing a Master’s in Ethical Philosophy.

I’ve always taken a serious approach to my work, and that’s reflected in my academic results — graduating top of my philosophy program and receiving recognition for academic excellence. More importantly, I’ve spent the past number of years actively teaching and working with students, helping them improve their understanding, writing, and exam performance.

Through my role as a departmental assistant in philosophy, I’ve delivered tutorials and supported undergraduate students in developing strong argumentation and essay-writing skills. This experience has given me a clear understanding of what examiners are looking for, and how to guide students towards producing high-quality work in a structured and confident way.

I’m reliable, professional, and easy to work with. I take the time to understand each student’s needs and adapt my approach accordingly — whether that’s building confidence from the ground up or refining the work of already strong students aiming for top grades.

Students I work with can expect clear explanations, structured lessons, and a focused approach to improvement. My aim is not just to help you get better results, but to make you more confident in your own ability to think, write, and perform under exam conditions.

If you’re willing to put in the effort, I’ll make sure you’re supported every step of the way.

Hi, I’m Mike — a First Class Honors graduate in Philosophy and Psychology, currently completing a Master’s in Ethical Philosophy.

My approach to tutoring is focused on clarity, structure, and confidence-building. I aim to break down complex ideas into simple, understandable parts, helping students not just memorize material, but actually *think* clearly and independently. I place a strong emphasis on argumentation, essay structure, and critical reasoning — skills that are essential for high performance in exams, especially in essay-based subjects.

In a typical lesson, I start by identifying where the student is struggling (whether that’s understanding concepts, structuring essays, or exam technique). From there, we work through targeted explanations, followed by guided practice. I often use examples, model answers, and step-by-step breakdowns to show exactly what examiners are looking for. As students improve, I gradually shift towards more independent work, helping them build confidence and consistency.

Lessons usually last between 60–90 minutes, depending on the student’s needs and focus level.

I have experience teaching undergraduate philosophy students through tutorials and occasional lectures, where I’ve helped students develop strong analytical and writing skills. I’ve also presented my own research at academic events, so I understand what high-level work looks like and how to guide others towards it.

My lessons are ideal for:

* Leaving Cert students (especially Philosophy, Religion, or essay-based subjects)
* Undergraduate students needing help with essays, structure, or understanding difficult material
* Anyone looking to improve critical thinking and writing skills

Overall, my goal is to make difficult material manageable, and to help students become more confident, capable thinkers.
