About Jelani
I spent nearly four years as a STEM Peer Mentor at San Diego Mesa College, helping hundreds of students with physics individually and in small groups. I recently graduated with associate degrees in physics and mathematics and tutor physics through the lower-division college level, as well as math from elementary school through college calculus. I try to create a relaxed environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and never feel wrong for not understanding something.

My approach is patient, casual, and encouraging. I start by figuring out where a student is getting stuck, then break difficult concepts into smaller pieces and explain them in different ways until something clicks. In a typical session, we'll review the concept, work through an example together, and then have the student take the lead while I guide and answer questions. My goal isn't just to solve the problem—it's to help students understand it well enough to tackle the next one themselves.
