About Fraser
Hello!
I'll start by getting the boring background on my qualifications out of the way. I entered Cambridge studying English Literature in my first year, being ranked in the top 10% of my cohort, and then successfully applied to change to Philosophy for the remaining two years.
Before that, I achieved top grades in every public exam I took while at school, with ten 9s and one A* at GCSE, and two A* and two D1 (the highest Pre-U grade, equivalent to a particularly strong A*) in sixth form.
I'm an unashamed nerd, who finds both these subjects beautiful and spends a good deal of my free time learning as much as possible about them. I'm curious, passionate, and eager to pass that on to as many other young people as I can.

Students get bombarded with large volumes of material at school already. My focus, in either English or Philosophy, is on detailed examination of individual passages and arguments. Capable students benefit hugely from the opportunity to focus their minds on those more concentrated questions, moving beyond the superficial understanding that the broad but shallow teaching common in schools provides.
That level of 'supercurricular' understanding is more and more what competitive universities and secondary schools are looking for in applicants, as well as translating well to achieving top grades in public exams: it's also something that schools unfortunately struggle to provide. I aim to help fill that gap.
Lessons would be between an hour and two hours in length. My normal method would be to draw on material broadly overlapping with the school curriculum - just doing it at greater depth - but I'm more than happy to go more off piste for anyone looking for a bit more of a challenge!
I'm of course perfectly willing to teach to all abilities, but bright students of any age (or their parents!) with a passion for English or Philosophy are particularly encouraged to get in touch - especially those aiming for competitive entrance examinations for school or university.
