About Kareema
I’m Kareema Colson, a current Oboe Performance student at the University of Miami’s Frost School of Music. I’m a member of the Stamps Woodwind Quintet, which has performed in masterclasses for world-class artists such as WindSync and Time for Three and has been a semi-finalist in several chamber music competitions. I am also an alumna of the Interlochen Arts Academy, where I performed with the orchestra on tour in New York City and played in a side-by-side concert with the New York Philharmonic. My teachers have included Jonathan Gentry, Dane Philipsen, and Robert Weiner, with additional instruction from Martin Schuring and Emily Pailthorpe. Music is one of the most important parts of my life, and my goal as a teacher is to provide students with the tools and support they need to develop their skills and experience the same joy and fulfillment that music has given me.

I’m passionate about music and strive to help students translate the sounds they imagine into confident, expressive playing. My teaching philosophy centers on guiding students to connect with their audience—whether performing a Sonata, Concerto, or Etude—and to take listeners on a musical journey.
Each lesson is tailored to the student’s needs and may include work on technique, musicality, reed making/adjustment, and any questions or challenges the student brings. Together, we’ll build a solid foundation through scales, etudes, exercises, and repertoire, developing both technical skill and artistic expression.
All levels of oboists are welcome, from beginners to advanced players!
