About Xinyan

Hi everyone! I’m a student at the University of Warwick, and even though I didn’t major in education, I’ve always had a passion for teaching. That’s why I’m here—to share my love for the Chinese language in a way that’s engaging, practical, and, most importantly, fun! My goal is simple: I want to make learning Chinese something you actually enjoy, not just something you memorise.

My Fun and Practical Chinese Learning Plan Hi everyone! I’m excited to take you on a 12-week journey to learning Chinese, and trust me, it’s going to be both fun and practical. My approach is simple: start with the basics, build real-world skills, and have tons of interactive practice along the way. Ready? Let’s dive in! Phase 1: Laying the Foundation (Weeks 1-4) Before we can chat away in Chinese, we need to get the basics down. • First, we’ll tackle pinyin and pronunciation. Think of it like unlocking a secret code—once you get it, reading Chinese will feel much easier. • Then, we move on to basic greetings and everyday words. If you can introduce yourself and order bubble tea, you’re already winning! • Numbers, dates, and time—because let’s be honest, you’ll want to know when your hotpot reservation is. • We’ll also learn how to talk about family and friends, so you can confidently introduce your pet goldfish in Chinese. Phase 2: Navigating Daily Life (Weeks 5-8) Now that we’ve got the basics, let’s start living life in Chinese. • We’ll learn how to order food, because food is life. You’ll know how to say “I want dumplings” before you even learn how to say “How are you?” • Next, shopping and bargaining—an essential survival skill for markets in China. I’ll teach you the magic phrase: “Can I get a discount?” • Then, we’ll practice asking for directions and using public transport, so you don’t end up taking a bus to the wrong city. • Finally, let’s talk about the weather—because no conversation is complete without complaining about it. Phase 3: Expressing Yourself (Weeks 9-12) Now it’s time to add some personality to your Chinese! • We’ll dive into hobbies and interests, so you can tell people you love K-pop, Marvel movies, or collecting cute stationery. • We’ll cover social interactions, from setting up a date to making small talk at a party. • You’ll learn to describe feelings and emotions, because sometimes you just need to say, “I’m exhausted!” after studying too much Chinese. • In our final week, we’ll put everything together with real-life conversation practice—it’s like a dress rehearsal before your big “I speak Chinese now” moment! How We’ll Learn • Lots of speaking practice! Forget boring memorisation—we’ll do role plays, fun challenges, and interactive games to keep things engaging. • Multi-sensory learning—we’ll use music, memes, videos, and even TikTok trends to reinforce what we learn. • Task-based activities—ordering food, giving directions, texting in Chinese… because real life isn’t a textbook. • Cultural deep dives! From Lunar New Year to the mystery of why Chinese people love hot water, we’ll explore what makes the language come alive. By the end of 12 weeks, you’ll be confident enough to survive (and thrive!) in a Chinese-speaking environment. More importantly, you’ll have fun stories and hilarious language-learning moments to share along the way. So, are you ready to speak Chinese and have fun doing it? Let’s go!
