About Lily

From a young age I always enjoyed helping other students in lessons. When I started working at my local Maths tuition centre I realised I had a real passion for helping people understand maths. I completely understand when you struggle with a subject it makes it very unenjoyable and so I try to make my lessons engaging and fun. I also know what it’s like when a teacher explains something once and although you may not understand it you don’t want to ask again. So I try to create a really judgement free zone, even if have to explain something 20 times it is really no bother. Especially when it comes to maths it needs to click and most of the time it’s not really in your control until your brain decides to understand it and the important thing is that is does click for the student and that they leave the lesson feeling like they really understand the topic. One of the most important things is confidence, so I try to create a really supportive environment with lots of praise when a student understands a topic or gets a question right etc!

About the lesson

I have tutored a range of different ages and abilities over the years. It has really helped me understand that everyone really does learn differently. Therefore, I like to really cater the lessons to the students. Some students benefit from primarily looking at exam questions, whereas some benefit from the advantage of having a tutor explain topics and methods to them however many time and from different perspectives until it “clicks”. I usually base my lessons on information from the student, parent, teachers and also from my own observations. Usually the lessons last an hour however I am flexible if a different length of time would work better if they struggle with concentration etc. I achieved a 9 in GCSE Maths, 3 A*s in Maths, Further maths and physics, grades which got me interviews/ lower offers in the TMUA and MAT and a maths degree for the university of warwick. I have tutored privately, for my old secondary school and at a maths and English tuition centre (Kumon) over the last 6 years . I am happy to help students of any age from primary school up to sixth form. I offer lessons more specifically for the 11+, GCSE maths and further maths/ Additional maths, A level maths and further maths and for different entrance exams for unis like the MAT and TMUA.
