About Avika
I have held various leadership positions such as the lead conductor and Head Drum Major for my high school marching band, Principal bassoonist of the New York Youth Symphony, and active member of a chamber group based in Manhattan. I have also participated in the New York Orchestra project and have previous ensemble experience in the Houston Youth Symphony. I am now based in Manhattan as I am pursuing my bachelor's degree in classical bassoon while studying under Kim Laskowski previous NY Philharmonic bassoonist. I have studied with Elise Wagner (2nd bassoonist of the Houston Symphony) and Dr. Brett Van Gansbeke. I have been accepted and participated in the BUTI Bassoon workshop along with the Interlochen advanced bassoon intensive. My master class experiences have consisted of working with Benjamin Kamins, Eric Stomberg, Daniel Matsukawa, Lee Munoz, Conrad Corneilson, Margaret Phillips, Monica Ellis, Glenn Einschlag, and Evan Epifanio. I participate in a chamber group and seek to volunteer in orchestras across New York. I aim to be a dedicated and passionate teacher for young students seeking a pathway into bassoon and learning more about the instrument.

I am looking to help anyone who is a beginner or intermediate player to become more confident in their skills on bassoon. I am seeking to generate a more cumulative learning process on technical skills along with allowing students to engage with a creative sense of musicality. My lessons will consist of weekly scale and concert studies assigned and reviewed to build a strong foundation for fundamentals. We will go on to work on solo repertoire and discover more into the world of orchestra by listening and analyzing excerpts.
