About Hua

My name is Tam Hua. I am originally from Vietnam and have been living in the U.S. for almost 10 years. I am a first-generation college student in my family. As an immigrant, I learned how to adapt to a new living environment and turn challenges into motivations to define my skills and abilities. When I first came to the U.S., discrimination and a language barrier were the largest obstacles that I had, but because of the support from family, friends, and church communities, I was able to overcome them, and later inspire my fellow students to follow my path.
As I grew up in a developing Asian country, where education is expensive for low-income students, I know the significance of education. I had witnessed my mother worried every month when the tuition is due because she knows if she can not pay it, I might not continue going to school. I had witnessed an orphan, who was selling bread, sneaking outside of my classroom, and trying to learn, because his parents could not afford a seat in the classroom. In Vietnam, since the Pre-K-12 education is expensive, my dream of going to college is impossible if I do not have an opportunity to immigrate to the U.S., where public education is free to all children. After spending years in American schools, I have a strong passion for education and believe that everyone should have an equal education opportunity. And I want to become an educator to inspire my students, especially those who are struggling every day to gain knowledge. And my dream of becoming an educator become more vivid after having been inspired by my Math teacher during my high school sophomore year. She shows that even though the education field is undervalued and challenging, with passion, dedication, and compassion, teachers will find the light in the darkness, they know it will be paid off after seeing a student light up when they understood their lesson. Because of all these factors, I decided to major in Math Education.
When speaking of qualifications for this scholarship, I know my GPA (3.68) is not very competitive, but there are other special circumstances that would make me worthy of this scholarship my dedication and efforts in my major through my part-time jobs and clinical experiences. And I am high appreciated if this scholarship is given to me.

About the lesson

My teaching style is not chasing a lesson plan, but designs to fit the individual needs of students. I will establish a friendly relationship with my students so that they are not afraid to ask questions when needed.
Lesson plans will be changed accordingly to meet students' needs.
I am currently a college junior majoring in Math Education with a GPA of 3.68. and can speak proficiently both English and Vietnamese.
