About Sophia

I’m an international student currently completing a Bachelor of Education (Primary and Secondary) at Monash University, specializing in mathematics. I bring both a strong academic background and hands-on teaching experience to my tutoring. In high school, I ranked in the top 0.5% of students in the Chinese college entrance exam (Gaokao) and also achieved a perfect score in the SAT Mathematics section. I successfully managed both the Chinese domestic curriculum and international programs, receiving offers from top universities in both systems. These experiences have given me a deep understanding of different academic pathways and the ability to support students working towards a wide range of goals. My lessons are structured, supportive, and tailored to each student’s needs. I focus on building strong mathematical foundations, boosting confidence, and helping students achieve their personal best—whether in classwork, NAPLAN, VCE, or other standardized exams.

About the lesson

My teaching approach is student-centered and flexible. I aim to build strong foundational understanding through clear explanations, visual aids, and real-world examples. I encourage active participation by asking guiding questions and adapting my instruction based on the student’s pace and learning style. I also use formative assessment strategies—such as quick quizzes and reflective questions—to monitor understanding and adjust lessons accordingly. Where appropriate, I incorporate digital tools and interactive resources to keep lessons engaging and accessible. Typical length of my lesson is around 60 minutes--more or less depending on student's individual needs, focus level, and learning goals. I’m currently completing my education degree at Monash University, where I undertake professional placements in both primary and secondary settings. In addition to my studies, I’ve worked with a wide range of learners through private tutoring and as an assistant tutor, supporting students across various age groups. I teach mathematics from Year 1 through to Year 12, including support for test preparation such as NAPLAN, VCE, and SAT.
