About Tong
About Me!
Hey there! I am Tong, a teacher who loves helping students discover that Math and Computer Science can actually be fun (yes, really!). I have a Master of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Canterbury, and I currently teach both subjects at a Wellington high school.
Whether we're cracking tricky algebra problems or writing a Python program that actually works, I am here to make learning easier, clearer, and more enjoyable.
How You learn
My lessons are all about understanding, not memorizing. I explain concepts step-by-step, use real examples, and make sure you know why something works, not just how to do it. You will get plenty of chances to ask questions, try things out, and make a few mistakes (best way to learn!)
I mix things up with visuals, coding challenges, and practical problem-solving so it never feels like just another boring class.
Who are you
I work with high-school students (Y9 - Y13) who want to:
1. get ready for NCEA Math or Digital Technologies.
2. Improve their problem-solving and coding confidence.
3. Learn at their own pace in a relaxed, encouraging environment.
What it looks like
Each session usually runs for about an hour each session, and each is customized for what you need - catching up, exam prep, or exploring advanced ideas. Online or in-person, all your call!

I focus on helping students build strong understanding and confidence in both Maths and Computer Science through clear explanations, real-world examples, and step by step problem solving. My teaching approach is student-centred.
The class would last 60 minutes, allowing enough time for concept review, guided practice, and independent application. Especially, for students preparing for NCEA assessments, I include past exam questions and strategies to help them achieve at their target level.
I hold a Master of Engineering in Mechanical from the University of Canterbury and currently teach at a state high school in Wellington. I have experience working with learners from Y9 to Y13, including those aiming for extension or additional support.
Lessons can be held in person or online, after school hours or during term breaks.
